På nyårsdagen körde Katarina Leander och David Broman en improviserad Fire Jam på Götaplatsen och jag och en fotograf till hade möjlighet att ta lite bilder. Den stora utmaningen med att fota eld är att inte överexponera lågorna, ju mer detaljer och färg, desto bättre bild. I kompakt mörker var det väldigt svårt att hitta den balansen, det blev något lättare när showen flyttade upp till det svagt ljussatta utrymmet närmast konstmuseet, men det väckte mest nya frågor, som hur resultatet blivit om jag använt blixt eller kunnat rigga ljuspaneler. Eller ännu bättre, tagit kommandot helt och styrt upp hela sessionen efter eget huvud. Det blev ett steg på vägen mot de bilder jag egentligen vill ta.
On the first day of the new year Katarina Leander and David Broman set up an improvised fire show at Götaplatsen in Gothenburg, a Fire Jam. Me and one more photographer got the chance to practice capturing it. The challenge is to not overexpose the flames, to get as much color and details as possible. In the dark that was quite difficult, it was somewhat easier when the show moved to the dimly lit space next to the art museum, but mostly it raised tons of “what if” questions. What if I had used a flash or set up light panels? Or better, what if I had been more in charge and directed the settings all after my own ideas? It was a step towards the pictures I really want to take.
